May 14, 2016 at The Athenaeum Theatre – Chicago in Chicago.

Nomi Dance Company will be closing its 9th season this May with a profound yet highly entertaining program commemorating the brilliance and talent of artists we have known and lost who had a powerful impact on the Chicago dance community. Reminiscence, which will be performed on Saturday, May 14th at 8:00 PM at the Athenaeum Theatre, will feature choreography from some of the most multifaceted and compelling choreographers Chicago has to offer, as well as a past audience favorite from a national guest artist.

Reminiscence will display an array of sentiments and themes that deal with love, loss, remembrance, humor, and the celebration of life, while delighting the audience using skills that Nomi is well known for: a high regard for dynamic risk-taking, athleticism, beautiful intricacies, and a unique flavor when performing vibrantly challenging work.

Nomi’s annual spring engagement includes the commissioning of three of Chicago’s finest talents; Lizzie Mackenzie (Artistic Director of Extensions Dance Company, formally of River North Dance Chicago), Todd Rhoades (Lyric Opera of Chicago, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Ron De Jesus Dance) and Paula Frasz (Artistic Director of Danzloop Chicago, Northern Illinois University). Nomi will also bring back a work from guest artist Robert Priore (Company E, Washington D.C.).

F+F F/ Samantha Ploskonka

July 10, 2016 at Form + Function Salon Education in Chicago.

Samantha has been in the industry for over ten years. She got an early start as a teen attending Paul Mitchell the School, Tinley Park, IL. While in school she assisted the Paul Mitchell team at trade shows and was one of four stylist at Chicago’s fall trend show. Three months after graduating, she picked up and moved to Los Angeles, CA to expand her career and knowledge. Samantha spent three years educating at Paul Mitchell the School Pasadena as well as freelancing private clients, National Educator for Paul Mitchell and photoshoots/events. In 2013 Samantha left the schools and started as a rising star stylist at Salon Mix in Los Angeles. She quickly moved up the ranks to Lead stylist/management as her clientele grew to capacity due to referrals and Instagram recognition. After honing her skills for eight years in the hustle and bustle of LA, she moved back to her roots in the Chicagoland and NWI area to open her own private studio and hopes to spread the knowledge she learned on the West Coast to hungry stylists of her region.

Samantha has a very stripped down way of teaching and working. Get ready to dive back into basics and how to apply them to today’s trends catering to those who have “trend anxiety”. With all the tools, brands and flashy techniques these days, Samantha will focus on core knowledge and her simple tricks to create flawless blends, fashion and perfect tones and ways to turn anyone on to experiencing color and growing their business.

The Woman in Black

April 29, 2016 at Saint Sebastian Players Theatre Company in Chicago.

A lawyer, obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the specter of a woman in black, engages a skeptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. Rebel Soul Revival, The Tyme Machines, and Liz Chidester Live at The Cobra Lounge

April 22, 2016 at Cobra Lounge in Chicago.

Shoeshine Boy Productions

Rebel Soul Revival
Rebel Soul Revival is a modern take on some age old ideas. Matt Keen is a rocker at heart and has finally formed a band that matches his nature in every way. From soulful, southern rock, with a grit and kick that would rival early Skynyrd and Allman Brothers Band to classic reggae and R&B. Keen brings an intensity that skews the lines between classic and current. This band truly can do it all and prides themselves on a progressive approach to music without forgetting their roots.

The Tyme Machines are a Chicago based, pop-rock band that prides itself on writing and performing infectious, quirky rock originals. Their sophomore EP, Straight Club Bangers (follow up to debut EP, Super Club Serenades) features 5 songs depicting the lighter side of life in Wisconsin. Tunes such as “My Bowling Team” and “1986 Gym Shorts” were inspired by front man, Bryan Adamick’s (or stage persona “Rod Stiffski”) years living in Wisconsin and observing local slang and tradition. Joined by Burt Burberson, Conrad Baine and Chet “Ego” Bratski, the band is also known for sharing its versions of awkward 1980’s and 90’s covers that you probably never wanted to hear again. Think… “She Drives Me Crazy”
by the Fine Young Cannibals! Don’t miss them the
next time they play at your local establishment!

Liz Chidester, originally from the mountains of Virginia, moved to Chicago by train in the winter of 2013. Since then, she has become involved in the Chicago music scene, performing in various venues, variety showcases, and festivals across Chicago. Liz released her debut album “People Pumping Pedals” in 2014 under the Chicago Acoustic Underground’s label CAU Dog Records. She released the acoustic EP “Otter Hill” in 2015, and is currently working on an EP “Progress Into Simplicity” set to be released in summer 2016. Liz’s music is featured on Pandora and Spotify, and can be purchased on iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, or Bandcamp. Liz has also immersed herself into the Chicago theatre scene, understudying ‘Mash’ in Sideshow Theatre Company’s STUPID F**KING BIRD at the Victory Gardens Theatre and ‘June Carter Cash’ in Mercury Theater’s RING OF FIRE. She recently recieved critical acclaim for her performance as ‘Laura’ in Refuge Theatre Project’s HIGH FIDELITYLiz was nominated for Best Female Vocalist in the Chicago Music Awards 2015 and was a Midwest Finalist in NPR’s NewSong Songwriting Compeition 2014.Before moving to Chicago, Liz was entertaining around the world as a lounge singer on Carnival Cruise Lines and Holland America Line.Liz Chidester is a classically trained singer, and a graduate of the School of Music at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

The Gospel of Lovingkindness Tour: Austin Town Hall Park

April 29, 2016 at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago.

Victory Gardens Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director Chay Yew, presents The Gospel of Lovingkindness Community Event in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The event will feature community performances from the theater production program at Austin Town Hall Park as well as a staged reading of Marcus Gardley’s hit play, The Gospel of Lovingkindness. This community event will be hosted on Friday, April 29 at 6:00p.m. in Austin at Austin Town Hall Park at 5610 W Lake St, Chicago, IL 60644.

Four workshops led by teaching artist, Ashley Roberson, with students from the Austin Town Hall Park theater production program will culminate in this reading performance open to the community in partnership with the Chicago Park District. The Austin Neighborhood Choir will also perform.

The Gospel of Lovingkindness tells the story of two mothers – one who sees her son struggle to find his place in the world, and another who sees her son live his dream. When these proud women meet, everything–their lives, their families, their city–is sent over the edge. As fervent and poetic as a gospel hymn, this drama about faith, family, and loss was inspired by true events.

The Gospel of Lovingkindness staged reading will be directed by Victory Gardens Theater’s Artistic Programs Manager, Monty Cole. Performers include Patrese McClain, LaNisa Frederick, Daryl Satcher, and Wardell Julius Clark.

The tour is produced as part of Victory Gardens Theater‘s Community Programs. This new initiative actively seeks to create meaningful partnerships with the diverse communities in the city of Chicago through theater work. Victory Gardens will invite meaningful dialogue around crucial issues within divergent communities, and will aim to connect communities through new theatrical works created in response to the needs of the community and city-at-large.

All tour events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 773.871.3000 or visit the Victory Gardens website at
