BLOOD DRIVE: Scav Hunt 2016!

May 02, 2016 at Center for Advanced Medicine in Chicago.

It’s that time of the year again, and SCAV HUNT WANTS YOUR BLOOD! (for points!) Scav Hunt is coming up, but before you and all your friends get started working on REDACTED and feverishly REDACTED REDACTED, it’s time to get pumped and give blood for Scav! Woooohoooo! BLOOD DRIVE! BLOOD DRIVE!

This year the Blood Drive will be exclusively in the DCAM (Room 2E!) for 5/2-5/6! Wow! So much fun! I’m wriggling with excitement writing this (I can only imagine how you feel!) just remember: bring all your friends, all your family, all your playmates, and all of your significant others with you to donate! Please don’t come in groups larger than five or so, or if you do, expect waiting times to be longer. You can call ahead to see if there are long lines, the number is 773-702-6247 the extension you’ll dial is 2-6247.

Now, for the FAQ:

1.Why donate? Why now?
It’s a great thing to do! Your blood will go to someone else in the community who needs it! If you see the Red Cross on campus in the weeks leading up to Scav, just wait and do it at the DCAM, because the Red Cross is going to just sell that blood to the DCAM anyways. Just donate directly and get point$$.
Bonus: you’ll also get snacks!

2. Who can donate?
There are more specific guidelines on who can donate listed by the CDC, but in general the things to remember are: you have to be 18 or over, over 110 pounds, and currently healthy. You also should eat a full meal before donating!

2. So where is this DCAM 2E anyways?
Go to the University bookstore on 58th and Ellis and head West. Once you see that traffic circle in front of that big building on Maryland, congratulations! That’s the DCAM. Head up the elevator or the stairs to the second floor, and continue down the hall until you reach the room called 2E. There should be volunteers there to direct you!

3. How long does it take to donate?
It takes around 20 minutes per person, but expect it to take longer if there’s a line. There are only 4-5 chairs in the donation room, so if you come in with a large group it’ll take longer. Consider calling ahead to see if there’s a line! (The number is 773-702-6247 and the extension is 2-6247)

4.When can I donate?
Monday through Friday in DCAM 2E between 8:00AM-3:30PM. They’ll take their last donor between 3:30-4, so come early! Thursday and Friday are typically packed, so come early in the week to avoid long waits!

Also, if you’re nervous about donating, consider bringing a friend along! Donating is super safe and easy, but sometimes people are nervous, especially when they’ve never donated before. Feel free to call up Judge Pepper (Kate) and she’ll keep you company if you like. (email judgepepper at uchicago.edu)

For those of you ineligible to donate, you can volunteer (for points!) and manage the flow of Scavvenly donators from a waiting room to the donations room. Wow such efficiency! Please only sign up if you’re actually ineligible. You cannot volunteer and donate for double points. That would only make me (and someone else!) doubly sad. Here’s the link to sign up:
