Please join us for the opening reception of the SUGs exhibition Bearing: object, body, and space” on Wednesday, March 1 | 4PM-6PM

Bearing: object, body, and space” is a group exhibition exploring ideas of corporeal imposition within the works and research of three artists, Santina Amato (MFA 2017), Lindsay Hutchens (MFA 2017/MAVCS 2018), and Michelle Marie Murphy (MFA 2017). This exhibition incorporates performative video, site-specific objects, photography, painting, and text to reflect on the issues that surround them as women and how they deal with the imposed and internalized threshold of their own bodies within their practices.

Programs that will expand on concepts explored in the exhibition are provided by generous support from the Departments of Photography (SAIC PHOTO), Printmedia (SAIC Printmedia), and Visual and Critical Studies (SAIC Visual Critical Studies), and the Student Support Wellness Group.

Gallery Talk with Cheryl Pope

December 17, 2016 at Monique Meloche Gallery in Chicago.

tracking.php?code=uz6RaB8F01Q5MsthMFgnZu

Join us Saturday, December 17th for a gallery talk with artist Cheryl Pope.

Pope will lead an informal discussion of works currently on view in her second solo exhibition at moniquemeloche, WATCH YOUR STEP, as well as her #onthewall collaboration with the community of Homan Square.

A continuation of her ongoing investigation into gun violence in Chicago and the nation, Pope’s latest body of work moves forward with her interest in spirituality, albeit in a more direct manner. While previous projects such as Just Yell provided a platform for the voices and spirits of the city to rise, the works in WATCH YOUR STEP – comprising sculpture, video, photography, and performance – physically embody these voices, engaging overtly with the spiritual realm to put forth new and necessary modes of healing as a means of civil protest.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Address: 2154 W Division St, Chicago
