With the elections that took place yesterday, November 9th and the Catholic “Jubilee Year of Mercy” ending its ceremonies that occur between Nov. 13-20, this is a particularly timely and relevant discussion on the need for intercultural, interfaith processes of mercy and reconciliation after a divisive election season and outcome.

Social Meditation: A Contemplative Exploration of Community & Society

Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 6:30-8:15PM

Social Meditation is a meditation program that emphasizes the context of meditation practice in order to deepen practice, increase motivation, and develop confidence in applying meditation in a variety of contexts. Meditation practice is suopplemented by structured discussion, exercises, and activities to take us beyond the limits we set for ourselves as meditators.

Social Meditation is recommended for all levels of practitioner, although those with no experience meditating should arrive at least 30 minutes early to receive basic meditation instruction. This is a safe space for all people and participants should be willing to be respectful and open in regard to different views and unfamiliar perspectives.

United in Prayer: Citizens of Heaven Pray for our Nation

November 03, 2016 at Eden United Church of Christ in Chicago.

tracking.php?code=J7ZybDPvFM6RndCNqUgSZD

THURSDAYS, OCTOBER 6 – NOVEMBER 17
(Continuing into winter if participants wish…)

All are invited to a time of prayer, with opportunities for worshipful sharing, in the beautiful Eden sanctuary on Thursdays from 4:00-4:30pm, beginning October 6th. Together, we will seek and express God’s heart for our nation, world and leaders in the language of prayer. We will be mindful, too, of Jesus Christ’s role and example. Can’t join us in person? Join us in spirit wherever you are. Contact Jacki at 773-655-4357 or jacki@edenuccchicago.org for worship resources. (Beginning 10/13, this will include optional opportunity to linger for fellowship and refreshments.) We invite your presence and prayers!

The Scripture which led us to engage in prayer during these divided times:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 3This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human,6who gave himself a ransom for all—this was attested at the right time.7For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument… 1 Timothy 2:1-8
