Roy Davis JrBirthday DJ Set

Roy Davis Jr. was introduced to dance music in the late 1980’s by legends as DJ Pierre, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Marshall Jefferson and Lil’ Louis. Davis began mixing when he was 13, mixing breaks, disco and then years later, house, techno and acid.

The big turning point for Roy Davis Jr. was in 1993. While in college he was asked to work as and A&R scout for Strictly Rhythm in NYC. Once a member of the group ‘Phuture’ Responsible for producing ‘Rise From Your Grave’ and ‘Inside Out’, He went out to the East Coast weekly, and was subsequently hired to start his own sub-label called Red Cat records. A few years later Roy Davis and singer-songwriter Peven Everett released ‘Gabriel’ in 1996 on Large Music and XL Recordings, the record then went on to sell over 200,000 copies and reach #22 in the UK Charts. The record was and still is hailed by some for kick-starting the UK garage scene.

Roy’s discography extends pass the successes of Gabriel with releases such as The Believers ‘Who Dares To Believe In Me’ ‘Enjoy The Ride’, ‘Modjo Lady’ ‘Join his Kingdom’ ‘Next To Me’ with Fred Everything and ‘Rock Shock’ licensed to Daft Punk’s label which also made it into a Alvin Ailey Broadway Musical by the name of ‘Grace’, Roy Davis Jr was the only Artist to this day who was signed to Thomas Bangalter’s Label Roule out of Paris he then went on to release records such as ‘All I Do’ on Omar-S’ label FXHE and ‘Under Tha Sun’ released on Downtown 161. Besides Roy’s long standing dedication to underground dance music and touring throughout the world as a DJ, Davis has also created records for Eric Benet/Faith Evans, Mary J. Blidge, Seal, Patti LaBelle, Terry Dexter, Christina Milian and Morcheeba.

7 albums deep and hundreds of records to his name Davis continues to innovate a sound which is so integral to Chicago’s history. Recent collaborations with Zed Bias on SWAMP81, a recent reissue on Dutch label Clone and continued touring throughout Europe and and the rest of the world goes to prove Roy is not afraid to experiment in an ever changing world of house and techno.

Roy Davis Jr. is currently planning the re-launch of his inaugural label Undaground Therapy Muzik (Underground Therapy) whilst working in and out of the studio on new music.

Nick Holder -Toronto

Nick Holder, owner of Toronto’s acclaimed DNH Records (now up to over 60 releases!), has been producing underground house music for the last ten years. As well as releases on his own DNH label, Holder has also produced respected EPs on John Acquaviva’s Definitive label, Stickman Records, Hi Bias, Strobe Records and Germany’s K7 label (two albums; “One Night In The Disco” and “Back On Track”). Nick’s recording work spans the house sound through to disco loops and minimal Chicago style, and his work has found their way into the record boxes of such DJ luminaries as Deep Dish, Andrew Weatherall, Nick Warren, Junior Vasquez and DJ Sneak.

Holder’s single, ‘Da Sambafrique’ propelled him to cult producer status, a latin track played by DJs all over the world. This record was to set the precedent for Holder’s critically acclaimed album on NRK, ‘From Within’ and spawned two underground classics; “Trying To Find Myself” and “I Once Believed In U”.

Last year saw the release of Nick’s second album for NRK. Titled ‘Underground Alternatives’, the album featured the new singles ‘America Eats Its Young’ and the huge Summer club hit, ‘Summer Daze’. The album received amazing reviews from the music press, and received the Album Of The Month accolade in UK, France, Canadian and Australian magazines.

Noches de Guaracha

February 18, 2016 at Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center in Chicago.

A unique series dedicated to dance music from Cuba and Puerto Rico hosted by SRBCC and Papo Santiago.

Papo Santiago has demonstrated an uncanny ability to take on new challenges, and become a bona fide bandleader. After mastering the saxophone and all its variants, he honed the craft of flute playing with Banda Municipal de Ponce 1985. Santiago moved to the city of Chicago in the late 1980’s where he found himself having to carve a niche in the city’s music circles. It didn’t take long for his talents to be recognized by the top tier of local musicians, including Orquesta Yambu, Ases del Merengue, Joe Rendon and friends, La Tira and Cuatrisimo.

Cuban flutist Jose Fajardo dubbed him “the child prodigy” after discovering his skills on the instrument while touring the Windy City. Santiago went on to join the experimental jazz ensemble Kalinda. The group’s first recording “Kalinda Kaliente” was named in 1997 by the Chicago Tribune as one of the year’s ten best in the Jazz category.

Santiago’s exploration as a professional singer was a natural step in his evolution as a fully rounded musician. His sonero attributes are founded in the legacies of Ismael Rivera. Luigi Texidor, Marvin Santiago, Isaac Delgado, and “El Tiburon” Morales.. In his improvisations, he combines street-wise sense of humor with a unique approach to rhythm and swing. Santiago stands as an icon of the harmonious fusion of classic influences with the most innovative trends in tropical music.

Most recently, in 2012. Papo Santiago released his first full CD production “Infraverde” now available on itunes & Amazon.com. The song “Viva Chicago” was adopted by The Latin Street Salsa Congreso 2012 as the official theme song of 2012.

Papo is currently considered to be among Chicago’s top Salsa bands and performs often at the top venues in Chicago, including The Mayne Stage, Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago Summer Dance, Navy Pier and very often during Live Salsa Sundays @ The Cubby Bear.

MANHOLE Welcomes Ron Geronimo

January 23, 2016 at Manhole – Chicago in Chicago.

DJ Ron G. realized his love for music at a very early age. With 3 older siblings, disco, pop and dance music have always been a part of his life. At age 11, he was introduced to the DJ life by his brother. At the tender age of 15, he got his first real taste of the club scene, getting the opportunity to open up for the legendary Bad Boy Bill. Ron is deeply intrigued by tech, disco and deep house, pulasating tribal rhythms, diva vocals and chunky electro bass lines.

Currently, he is a resident DJ/VJ for Phoenix Nightclub, Charlie’s Chicago & Roscoes Tavern. Past residencies include Hunters Nightclub & the Armani Exchange. He’s also had the pleasure of spinning many clubs around Chicago & abroad such as Circuit Nightclub, Manhole Chicago, Mary’s Attic, Minibar, Decibel Nightclub (Milwaukee), The Compound (Denver) & Hunters Nightclub (Palm Springs). He has been a featured guest DJ for Crobar Chicago and headlined for Hydrate Nightclub on numerous occasions. He was a featured DJ in the PUMP! Showcase at the Milwaukee Pridefest. He’s also had the pleasure of spinning Harry Lit’s “Sweat” party (Metro Chicago), The IML Black & Blue Ball at Excalibur Nightclub (2011 & 2012), Joe Fiore’s Furball Chicago held at The Metro (2014 & 2015) & the WOOF! party held at Hunter’s Nightclub Ft Lauderdale (2015).

Ron has been a guest DJ on the “Grooveline” internet radio show with Fusion Radio & the “Strictly Dance” Radio Show. In March of 2008, he was one of three winners in Centaur Music’s Most POPular Dj Contest.

In 2010, he took his music skills to the next level. With the drive to expand his creativity in music, he teamed up with DJ Daniel Borrero, who introduced Ron into remix production. Working on numerous production projects, their hard work finally paid off when they entered the Wynter Gordon Masterbeat remix contest. Their remix was chosen to be released on a special EP exclusively on Masterbeat.
Ron enjoys channeling his numerous musical influences & experiences positively throughout music. Nothing is more rewarding or satisfying to him than communicating with people through music.
