One show only! Tickets at

Full Chicago European Union Film Festival schedule at

Director Serra (QUIXOTIC, BIRDSONG) continues his project of reinventing the period film in his most accessible and classically satisfying work to date. A legendary historical figure is portrayed by a legendary actor (Léaud in a magnificently concentrated performance), but the film shows, in precisely selected details, how even an absolute monarch must bow to the weight of time and fleshly decay. Stricken with gangrene, the Sun King struggles—gallantly, grouchily, poignantly—to maintain his royal bearing, as his every gesture is scrutinized by anxious courtiers and his well-meaning but bungling doctors attempt to keep him alive. In French with English subtitles. Courtesy of The Cinema Guild. DCP digital widescreen.

Emotional Mindfulness Meditation Group

March 02, 2017 at World Tree Healing in Chicago.

This is a weekly group that meets on Thursdays. The intention of the group is to allow people to get to know their emotions, release old pain and resentments, get in touch with their intuition, release unwanted patterns, and utilize the power of their emotional resources.

Each meeting will start with a check-in, followed by a guided body-awareness and emotional-body-awareness meditation. Elmo is a firm believer in the collective unconscious, and unspoken reasons that certain people step into the same room at the same time. The intentions will depend on what has been brought up during check-in. Sometimes the focus will be a general emotional mindfulness intention. Sometimes it will be more focused, such as on gratitude, or Love, or grief. The meeting will end with another check-in and grounding, centering, and shielding to prepare us to walk out the door feeling safe.

Payment is donation-based, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. This is a safe space for all gender, romantic, sexual, and personal identities and expressions.

Elmo is currently in the Counseling Psychology Master’s program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She specializes in emotional wellness, which plays a significant role in our lives, including our ability to achieve goals, give and receive love, career success, creativity, community work, and has a huge physiological effect on our bodies.

Cezanne and Me

March 03, 2017 at Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago.

Two shows only — March 3 & 7
Tickets & showtimes at

Full Chicago European Union Film Festival schedule at

The stormy but enduring bond between two giants of French culture is the focus of this graceful dual-biopic of Paul Cézanne (Gallienne of YVES SAINT LAURENT) and Émile Zola (Canet of TELL NO ONE), whose friendship began in childhood in the sun-drenched hills of Aix-en-Provence but fluctuated wildly as they pursued different paths toward artistic glory. The film begins in 1888, with an outraged Cézanne confronting Zola about the thinly veiled portrait of him as a failed genius in the novel “The Masterpiece.” Flashbacks fill in their complex relationship, with emphasis on the contrasting personalities of the temperamental outsider Cézanne and the reserved burgher Zola. Director Thompson (JET LAG, AVENUE MONTAIGNE) recounts this lifelong love-hate affair with rich period detail and psychological insight, taking a cue from Zola’s insistence that “The Masterpiece” was as much a portrait of himself, with his secret fears and repressed longings, as it was of Cézanne. In French with English subtitles. Courtesy of Magnolia Pictures.
