March 06, 2017 at Alphawood Gallery in Chicago.

About Face Theatre and Art AIDS America are proud to present a staged reading of William Hoffman’s AS IS, the first in our “AIDS on Stage” Series at Alphawood Gallery on Fullerton and Halsted. Admission is FREE, doors open at 6pm, and the event begins at 7.

This landmark Drama Desk-winning and Tony-nominated play was among the first to explore how the AIDS pandemic affected the LGBT community. The play tells the story of a man’s life turned on its head after he is diagnosed with AIDS – who he turns to, who turns away from him, and how the world reacts to the beginning of the crisis.

“AIDS on Stage” is a series of readings presented by About Face Theatre and the groundbreaking Art AIDS America exhibition. Four readings from HIV/AIDS focused plays provide a chronological, retrospective look at how theatre artists have addressed the devastating health crisis throughout the decades. The readings will take place every Monday in March at 7PM at Alphawood Gallery on the corner of Fullerton and Halsted. Doors open at 6pm to provide attendees an opportunity to experience the exhibit as well.
