November 30, 2016 at Barreto’s Boys and Girls club in Chicago.
Throughout the academic year, the students have had multiple opportunities to reflect on the effects of violence in their daily lives inside and outside the classroom. From the development of a community mural to call attention to the issue of violence, to the establishment of a peace room and restorative justice practices as an alternative to school suspensions, the basketball game is an effort to improve relations between the youth and police.
The basketball game will be hosted in the gym of the Barreto Boys and Girls Club, located at 1214 N. Washtenaw, from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm on Wednesday, November 30th. This event is organized by PACHS and the PRPA.
This project has been also possible with the support and contribution of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, and its executive director José López. PACHS is located at 2739-41 W Division St. For more information about this project call: Danette Sokacich, Principal at 773-342-8022 or visit www.pachs-chgo.org.
